Zambia and EU Strengthen Key Partnership

Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with the European Union (EU) through high-level engagements led by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen.

During her meetings with EU International Partnerships Deputy Director Ms. Myriam Ferran, Ms. Gundersen expressed gratitude for the EU’s ongoing budgetary support and highlighted its vital role in key sectors such as agriculture, forestry, energy, and education.

Discussions included the feasibility study for the Zambia section of the Lobito Corridor, a transformative project aimed at boosting trade infrastructure and enhancing Zambia’s export capacity globally. 

The Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to Zambia’s economy, advocating for partnerships with EU entrepreneurs and access to EU funding mechanisms like the Global Gateway.

Acknowledging the global shift towards sustainability, Ms. Gundersen sought technical assistance to help Zambian industries meet EU carbon emissions standards, ensuring sustainable access to European markets.

Ms. Ferran echoed the importance of fostering business collaborations between EU and Zambian entrepreneurs to drive mutual economic development.
