FAZ Condemns Attacks on Barbra Banda Following BBC Women’s World Footballer of the Year Recognition

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has condemned the hate-filled attacks targeting Barbra Banda, the captain of the Zambia Women’s National Team, after her BBC Women’s World Footballer of the Year accolade.

FAZ President, Andrew Kamanga, emphasized that these attacks, which include racial abuse, undermine Barbra’s accomplishments and aspirations. FAZ is working with global football authorities to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.

Kamanga praised Barbra’s achievements, including her pivotal role in the Paris Olympics and her remarkable performance with Orlando Pride.

He reiterated that football should remain a space free of racial and rights abuses, encouraging young African footballers to aim for excellence without fear of discrimination.

Barbra’s journey, from the 2014 FIFA Women’s World Cup to her current status as one of the top footballers globally, highlights her resilience and commitment. The association continues to stand by her, advocating for her rights and the integrity of the sport.
