LCC Plans Community Sensitization on Levy Payments
Lusaka City Council (LCC) is set to launch a community sensitization campaign aimed at emphasizing the importance of paying levies and council dues.
Eng. Liftry Ndaba, the LCC Town Clerk, stressed that a larger financial base for the local authority is essential for improved service delivery within the city. The funds generated from levy payments will be reinvested to enhance public services.
As part of the initiative, LCC plans to introduce incentives such as public-private partnerships, cashless services, and discounts to encourage greater public compliance.
Eng. Ndaba made these remarks during a panel discussion on Strengthening Fiscal Sustainability for Urban Resilience: Linking Financial Assessments to Strategic Outcomes, alongside notable figures including Lusaka’s Mayor Ms. Chilando Chitangala, Nairobi County Deputy Governor Mr. James Muchiri, and officials from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Finance, and Addis Ababa City Administration.
LCC, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, is exploring ways to expand its fiscal space in line with national development goals.
A validation of Lusaka City Council’s draft financial performance report is underway in Livingstone, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to address the challenges and opportunities related to improving the city’s financial sustainability.
