Huawei Technologies Partners with Zambian Govt to Advance Digital Transformation

Huawei Technologies Zambia has officially handed over two (2) S2 65-Inch Hubs (Smart-boards) to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), in support of the Zambian Government’s digital transformation efforts. The donation aims to help realize Zambia’s e-governance vision by 2030.

Earlier this year, the Zambian Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei to construct Smart Villages across the country, with President Hakainde Hichilema launching the first-ever Smart Village in Muchila Village, Namwala District.

The Smart Village initiative aims to drive socio-economic development in rural areas through digital inclusion, featuring key infrastructure such as communication towers, solar-powered systems, and digital services in education and healthcare.

At the handover ceremony, Huawei Zambia’s Managing Director, Ms. Bette Chen, expressed the company’s commitment to Zambia’s digital transformation, emphasizing the importance of empowering citizens through digital inclusion, particularly in urban and rural areas.

She applauded the Zambian Government for its efforts in promoting technological advancement and pledged Huawei’s continued support in expanding e-services like e-payment platforms for local authorities.

Mr. Maambo Haamaundu, Permanent Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, thanked Huawei for its ongoing technical and capacity-building support.

He stressed that digital inclusion and innovation are vital for bridging the socio-economic gap between rural and urban areas.

Mr.  Haamaundu reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to investing in digital transformation to improve the quality of life for rural communities and foster economic development.
