Kazungula Hosts Launch of Digital Registration System for Persons with Disabilities

The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disability (ZAPD) has introduced a transformative Digital Mobile Offline Registration system, aimed at streamlining the registration process for persons with disabilities. 

Launched in Kazungula, Southern Province, this innovative system—developed by the University of Zambia (UNZA)—operates both online and offline, ensuring seamless service delivery even in areas with limited internet access.

Southern Province Minister Mr. Credo Nanjuwa emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and improving the lives of persons with disabilities. He applauded the system for its potential to enhance accessibility and transparency in service delivery.

Ms. Angela Kawandami, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, represented by Director for Social Welfare Mr. Nelson Nyangu, highlighted the system’s pivotal role in reaching marginalized communities. “This tool ensures no one is left behind, especially in remote areas,” she noted.

Professor Beatrice Matafwali, standing in for UNZA Vice-Chancellor, underscored the university’s commitment to leveraging its expertise for societal transformation. “This innovation showcases UNZA’s dedication to creating solutions that matter,” she said.

ZAPD Director General Mr. Frankson Musukwa hailed the initiative as a milestone for timely and efficient registration. International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director Mr. Wellington Chibebe reaffirmed ILO’s support for frameworks that empower persons with disabilities.

On behalf of the community, Mr. Bright Lingungu Imasiko expressed gratitude, calling the initiative a testament to the government’s commitment to equality and inclusivity.
