Zambia Unveils AI Strategy to Drive Economic Transformation and Job Creation
The Ministry of Technology and Science on 21st November launched Zambia’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, a comprehensive roadmap designed to propel the country toward a digital technology-driven economy.
The launch was officiated by Minister Felix Mutati, who expressed optimism that AI will drive significant transformation, creating new opportunities for wealth generation and employment.
Mutati emphasized that AI is integral to the global economic shifts, positioning Zambia to harness its potential for digital advancement.
He highlighted how AI technology will streamline public service delivery, enhancing efficiency, convenience, and eliminating redundancies—key factors for accelerating economic growth.
“AI will not only enhance public services but also provide innovators and entrepreneurs with a platform to refine their ideas and remain competitive in this rapidly evolving technological landscape,” Mutati stated.
He also referred to AI as “a beacon of hope for Zambia, and for humanity,” stressing its transformative impact across sectors such as education, health, and agriculture.
The Minister acknowledged Zambia’s AI Strategy as a pioneering effort, with significant contributions from local experts and international partners, including Finland and the Tony Blair Foundation.
The strategy’s implementation will be based on five core pillars: digital trees for enhanced connectivity, reliable data for efficient service delivery, trust and confidence to protect cyberspace, and a focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and partnerships to sustain technological growth.
