Lighting Up a Greener Zambia: Pioneering Smart PV & BESS Summit Held in Lusaka
The “Lighting Up a Greener Zambia – Zambia Scenario-based Smart PV & BESS Summit 2024,” co-hosted by LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei, successfully unfolded in Lusaka on 15th November.
This landmark event aimed at advancing Zambia’s energy transition, featured keynote addresses by Mr. Peter Mumba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, and Mr. Albert Halwampa, Director General of the Zambia Development Agency.
The summit convened over 150 participants, including experts from ZESCO Limited, financial stakeholders like the First National Bank of Zambia, and technology leaders LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei.
Discussions revolved around Zambia’s national net-metering plan, cutting-edge HPBC2.0 crystalline silicon modules, FusionSolar intelligent solutions, and strategies for green financing.
A significant milestone was the signing of a cooperation framework agreement between LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei, reinforcing their shared commitment to driving Zambia’s renewable energy transformation.
LONGi’s HPBC2.0 technology, boasting an efficiency record of 25.4%, was showcased alongside the bifacial Hi-MO 9 module and the Hi-MO X10 for diverse photovoltaic applications. These innovations promise higher efficiency and reduced energy costs.
Local customers praised LONGi’s new solutions, culminating in the signing of an MoU for the deployment of 12MW of advanced solar products.
Mr. Peter Mumba highlighted Zambia’s 2030 goal of achieving 100% electricity access, with 56% of rural populations targeted for off-grid photovoltaic solutions. Tax incentives and policy optimizations were underscored to attract investments in the solar sector.
LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei pledged to synergize efforts, integrating cutting-edge technologies and expertise to support Zambia’s green development goals. The summit set the stage for multi-scenario photovoltaic and energy storage solutions, reflecting Zambia’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
