Zimbabwe-Zambia Energy Projects Summit to Power Sustainable Future for Region

From November 18-20, 2024, the Zimbabwe-Zambia (Zim-Zam) Energy Projects Summit will bring together government leaders, private investors, and energy stakeholders in Victoria Falls under the theme Powering Zimbabwe and Zambia’s Sustainable Energy Future: Unlocking Opportunities in Renewables, Grid Modernization, and Energy Access.

With Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Energy and Power Development’s patronage and sponsorship from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), the summit highlights a crucial partnership for regional energy resilience.

As both countries push to attract investments in renewables like solar, geothermal, and wind to diversify from traditional hydroelectric power, the event is set to drive impactful energy policy changes and innovations for sustainable growth.

Edington Mazambani, CEO of ZERA, stated, “The Zimbabwe-Zambia Energy Projects Summit embodies our commitment to a sustainable future. Together, we will explore vast opportunities in renewables, modernize our grids, and ensure energy access for all.” Zambia’s Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has backed this vision with a $1.76 billion investment in the energy sector, aiming to counter drought-driven shortages and enhance grid infrastructure.

The summit will feature insights from Zimbabwe’s and Zambia’s Ministries, utilities like ZESCO and ZESA Holdings, and financial leaders such as the African Development Bank (AfDB) and British International Investment (BII). Sponsors like Marsh and Vinmart Group are keen to address infrastructure challenges, risk mitigation, and the creation of an investment-friendly environment to expedite project implementation.

Manoj Patil, Director of Mining Engineering Services at Vinmart, noted, “This is a vital opportunity to engage in discussions that will unlock energy and infrastructure opportunities, driving economic growth and a cleaner energy future.”

With major stakeholders gathered to address the pressing need for sustainable energy and investment, the summit promises to lay a roadmap for a reliable and environmentally resilient energy future for Zimbabwe and Zambia.
