Zambia Engages in ZLE CAF Morocco 2024, Promotes Intra-Africa Trade Opportunities
A delegation from Zambia’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, led by Mrs. Margaret Chikuba, Director of Domestic Trade and Commerce, represented Zambia at the inaugural ZLE CAF Business Forum in Morocco.
During a panel on the readiness of African nations for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Mrs. Chikuba emphasized the need for robust transport and logistics infrastructure across Africa to enable seamless cross-border trade.
She outlined Zambia’s ongoing initiatives in trade facilitation, which are designed to streamline the movement of goods and people within the continent.
Mrs. Chikuba also highlighted Zambia’s venture into manufacturing batteries for electric vehicles, calling on Morocco and other African countries to explore investment opportunities in Zambia’s emerging industrial sector.
This aligns with the broader forum discussions, which were spearheaded by the Morocco Ministry of Commerce and the Confederation of Exporters, focusing on infrastructure development and sustainable growth to drive African trade.
The forum, which brought together delegates from Egypt, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, and Morocco, showcased Morocco’s advancements in renewable energy as a potential model for other African nations.
Morocco’s Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, the world’s largest concentrated solar power plant, generates 580 MW of solar energy, while its Tarfaya wind farm provides 300 MW from 131 turbines, underscoring the nation’s commitment to energy independence and sustainable development.
With lessons learned from Morocco, Director Chikuba announced plans for a Zambian study tour to Morocco, aiming to further enhance Zambia’s trade and investment strategies within the African trade landscape.
