(B)energy Relaunches Africa-Focused Biogas Platform at African Energy Week
Africa-based biogas company (B)energy has relaunched its innovative digital platform, BiogasUnite, at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2024. The platform, designed to enhance the adoption of clean cooking solutions across Africa, connects biogas consumers, technicians, and energy stakeholders in a streamlined digital environment.
Speaking at a technical workshop during the event, Katrin Puetz, Founder and Managing Director of (B)energy, revealed the company is seeking £780,000 in investment to scale BiogasUnite across the continent.
The platform is currently under trial in Uganda and aims to address maintenance challenges that have left approximately 175,000 biogas cooking systems non-functional.
Puetz highlighted that, since 2012, around 200,000 biogas cooking systems have been installed across Africa, but nearly 60% are now out of service due to lack of proper maintenance. BiogasUnite will address this gap by providing users with easy access to technicians for stove repairs.
The platform also allows business owners to rent and monetize their cooking stoves, helping overcome the high upfront costs that have hindered biogas adoption.
With partnerships in countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin, Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Mozambique, (B)energy is focusing on scaling the platform and ensuring long-term sustainability.
Puetz stressed the importance of collaboration with governments and private investors to boost job creation and strengthen the sustainability of Africa’s oil and gas industry.
The platform’s features, including a smart meter and a user-friendly app, represent a significant step forward in addressing Africa’s energy access challenges. With nearly a billion people lacking access to clean cooking, BiogasUnite is poised to make a meaningful impact on the continent’s clean energy future.
