Zambia and India Deepen Ties in Key Sectors at the 6th Session of Joint Permanent Commission
Zambia and India convened for the 6th Session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) of Cooperation on 6th November in Lusaka, aiming to bolster collaborative efforts in trade, agriculture, health, and technology.
The high-level Ministerial Session, co-chaired by Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P., and India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Hon. Kirti Vardhan Singh, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
In his address, Hon. Haimbe highlighted the 60-year alliance between Zambia and India, celebrating their commitment to peace, prosperity, and mutual respect. He emphasized the successes in agriculture, particularly the focus on sustainable practices and advanced technology to boost productivity.
The Minister also underscored the positive impact of educational exchanges and capacity-building programs, which have empowered Zambians with critical skills.
The discussions covered expanded collaboration across various sectors, including trade and industrial growth, health and pharmaceuticals, defense, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.
Zambia also expressed gratitude for India’s support in international forums and pledged its backing of India’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
As Hon. Haimbe reiterated, “The implementation of our joint decisions must reflect dedication, accountability, and transparency to reinforce the trust between our nations.”
The session concluded with both countries pledging to maintain their collaborative efforts for continued progress and development.
