LCC Partners with Polish Firm to Install Solar-Powered Street Lights
The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has partnered with Polish lighting company LUG to implement a pilot project featuring solar-powered street lights on two major streets in Lusaka.
The public lighting solution combines on-grid and off-grid (solar) lighting, integrated with a smart management system for sustainable energy and optimized functionality.
The off-grid lighting units are designed with high-quality components that will alleviate pressure on the national grid, offering a reliable energy source independent of traditional power infrastructure.
LCC highlighted the system’s ease of remote monitoring and maintenance, enabling engineers to track lighting performance without being on-site.
Following an earlier proposal by LUG to improve Lusaka’s public lighting, the Lusaka City Council approved the project, which is expected to be completed by year’s end.
During a courtesy call to the Town Clerk’s office, LCC Director of Administration emphasized the city’s urgent need for sustainable energy solutions amid a national power deficit, adding that the partnership will improve road safety for both pedestrians and motorists.
LUG Light Factory’s Director of Engineering Markets, Michal Lupkowski, expressed optimism about the project, seeing it as an initial step toward larger investments in Zambia’s lighting infrastructure.
The council reiterated its commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents caused by poor visibility in Lusaka’s streets.
