Emirates Expands Operations in Africa to Meet Growing Demand
Emirates is strengthening its African network with additional flights to Entebbe (Uganda), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Johannesburg (South Africa), aimed at supporting the continent’s growth and improving connectivity. This increase will raise Emirates’ weekly African flights to 161 by March 2025.
From October 27, Entebbe has moved to a daily service, offering 718 extra weekly seats and enhancing connections to popular destinations such as the U.S., India, and Canada. Emirates, Uganda’s only airline with First Class, recently signed a partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board to boost tourism.
On January 1, 2025, Emirates will add a daily flight to Ethiopia, in line with the country’s vision to become a top-five African tourist destination. This will be followed by a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg from March 1, restoring Emirates’ operations to pre-pandemic levels in South Africa, with 49 flights weekly.
Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, stated, “Africa has long been a priority region for Emirates. We are deepening our strategic focus on expansion and investment on the continent, using Dubai as a key gateway to connect with emerging economies.”
Through 23 partnerships, Emirates’ network spans over 210 African points, connecting with local carriers like Royal Air Maroc and Cemair. The airline’s cargo division, Emirates SkyCargo, is also deploying eight weekly freighters to support African trade, with plans to expand capacity by 2026.
Tickets are available on the Emirates App, website, retail stores, and via travel agents.
