MCTI Signs MoU with USAID to Boost Business Environment in Zambia
The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry (MCTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the USAID Business Enabling Project to enhance business reforms in Zambia.
This strategic partnership focuses on fostering a business-friendly environment that will support private sector growth, stimulate innovation, and drive sustainable economic development.
During the signing ceremony, Crusivia Hichikumba, MCTI’s Permanent Secretary for Investment and Industrialization, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening Zambia’s business ecosystem.
“This MoU represents a shared commitment to creating a space where businesses can thrive, innovate, and contribute to the nation’s economic progress,” he said. Hichikumba emphasized that a robust private sector is essential for job creation, innovation, and long-term economic growth.
The collaboration will prioritize streamlining regulatory processes, enhancing accessibility to essential resources, and supporting businesses in navigating Zambia’s regulatory frameworks.
“USAID has been a steadfast partner on this journey, and through this MoU, we’re establishing a framework to tackle key challenges facing our business community,” said Hichikumba.
Ms. Carianne De Boer, Chief of Party for the USAID Business Enabling Project, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
She noted that the MoU aims to improve Zambia’s commerce and trade facilitation frameworks across sectors such as Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Tourism, Trade, and Energy.
“This collaboration is also about aligning with international best practices and using global expertise to address local challenges,” said De Boer.
