Zambia and Ecuador Strengthen Diplomatic Ties to Boost Trade, Climate Action, and Development
The President of the Republic of Ecuador, His Excellency Mr. Daniel Noboa, recently received Letters of Credence from Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Glyne Michelo, accrediting him as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to Ecuador, with residence in Brasilia.
The official ceremony took place at the historic Carondelet Palace, also known as the Palace of the Government, in Ecuador’s capital, Quito.
In the presence of Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Gabriela Sommerfeld, President Noboa expressed a strong commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration between Zambia and Ecuador.
Highlighting the shared values of South-South cooperation, he emphasized the importance of developing countries uniting to address global challenges, including climate change.
“Developing countries must continuously engage in discussions about development,” President Noboa emphasized.
He also noted the need for collaboration in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, which has contributed to electricity shortages in both countries. President Noboa urged Zambia and Ecuador to explore mutual investment opportunities and establish business partnerships to promote increased trade.
President Noboa also highlighted common social challenges, including youth unemployment and high poverty rates, issues that both Zambia and Ecuador face. He emphasized the importance of joining forces to find solutions that will enhance social and economic development for both nations.
Following his accreditation, Ambassador Michelo conveyed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ecuador and assured President Noboa of President Hakainde Hichilema’s readiness to enhance political, economic, social, and cultural cooperation.
Ambassador Michelo also acknowledged Ecuador’s call for joint efforts to combat climate change and pledged to mobilize Zambia’s business community to explore trade and investment opportunities with Ecuador.
