Youths Challenged to Develop Zambia on 60th Independence Anniversary
During Zambia’s 60th independence anniversary celebrations, Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati urged the nation’s youth to step up as custodians of the country’s legacy and actively contribute to its development.
Speaking at the event in Mansa, Mutati emphasized the importance of harnessing youthful energy and creativity to propel Zambia forward.
Recognizing the pivotal role played by the independence struggle, Mutati affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering opportunities for the youth through initiatives such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).
He highlighted the establishment of industrial yards, grants, and increased youth participation in the government’s development agenda as key to empowering young Zambians.
Mutati noted that the spirit of the freedom fighters continues to inspire today’s generation, urging them to tackle contemporary challenges such as climate change, economic hurdles, and social inequalities—echoing the resilience displayed by their forefathers against colonial rule.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to spearheading economic activities aimed at improving citizens’ well-being, including the innovative 50 megawatts solar project in Mansa and significant annual increases in CDF allocations.
“This celebration under the theme ’60 years strong: Honouring our heritage, embracing the future’ carries special significance as we reflect on our journey from 1964 to the present day,” Mutati stated.
In a show of support, the Luapula Province Zambia United National Freedom Fighters Association commended the New Dawn government for its efforts in promoting peace and development amid ongoing challenges.
Treasurer Sebastian Mooba, speaking on behalf of Provincial Chairman Johnson Mulenga, called on all Zambians to remain united and to foster love among one another.
He emphasized that the country’s good leadership has solidified its reputation as a peaceful nation, urging support for the welfare of surviving freedom fighters linked to various freedom fighters associations.
The celebrations also featured a solemn wreath-laying ceremony led by Minister Mutati and members of the Provincial Joint Operations Committee (PJOC), honoring the contributions of those who fought for Zambia’s independence.
