ZICA Annual Business Conference Promotes Innovation and Sustainability for Economic Growth
The Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), in collaboration with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), successfully held its annual business conference in Livingstone, focused on addressing the critical challenges facing Zambia’s business sector.
The event, themed “Business Success Beyond Today: Embracing Innovation, Sustainability, and Excellence,” brought together business leaders and industry experts to discuss the future of Zambia’s economy.
ZICA President Yande Siame Mwenye, in her keynote address, emphasized the need for the accounting profession to adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape, while also prioritizing sustainability as a cornerstone for long-term business success.
She explained that the conference theme aligns with the objectives of Zambia’s 8th National Development Plan, which promotes entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development.
“In today’s fast-changing world, innovation is not optional—it is essential,” Mwenye stated. “As accountants, we are no longer just number crunchers in the back office. We are strategic business partners who must guide organizations through the complexities of the modern financial landscape.”
Mwenye also highlighted the role of businesses in promoting green growth and mitigating climate change, especially in light of the ongoing El Niño-induced drought and the resulting energy crisis facing the country.
“The global push towards sustainable practices is not just a trend; it’s a necessity. We have a responsibility to implement sustainable practices that not only protect the environment but also ensure social and economic sustainability for future generations,” she added.
Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa, who also addressed the conference, praised ZICA for adopting international sustainability standards and reaffirmed the government’s support for sustainability initiatives. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve meaningful progress in environmental and economic resilience.
The Annual Business Conference offered a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and the exchange of innovative ideas. It encouraged businesses to rethink their strategies and adopt practices that not only foster growth but also contribute to sustainable development.
