Mozambique to Revolutionize Energy Sector Through Capacity Building at 9th Annual Gas & Energy Summit

Mozambique is taking bold steps to innovate its energy system by focusing on capacity development and the deployment of cutting-edge technology. The upcoming Mozambique Gas & Energy Summit & Exhibition (MGES), scheduled for 19-21 November 2024 at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo, will feature a fully CPD-accredited Technical Seminar to drive these efforts forward.

With Mozambique having the largest power generation potential in Southern Africa—capable of producing 187 GW from coal, hydro, gas, solar, wind, and other renewable sources—the summit will serve as a crucial platform for industry stakeholders to discuss the future of energy.

The summit’s Technical Seminar, themed Technical Capacity: Innovating Mozambique’s Energy System, will provide attendees with opportunities to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and engage with the latest innovations shaping the energy transition.

Speaking on the event’s importance, Celestino Maússe, Senior Manager for Gas Infrastructure at Sasol and a member of the seminar’s steering committee, noted, “The Technical Seminar will broaden perspectives on the energy mix available in Mozambique and Southern Africa, particularly as the demand for clean energy rises due to economic digitization and advancements in AI.”

The event will feature discussions on best practices for operational efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainable energy transitions. It will also highlight Mozambique’s national programme “Energy for All,” which aims to provide universal access to energy by 2030. The government is focused on boosting energy production while ensuring that new technologies contribute to local job creation, technical capacity development, and socioeconomic growth.

Paulo Chibanga, Vice President of the Associação Industrial de Moçambique (AIMO) and another steering committee member, emphasized the seminar’s role in fostering collaboration within the energy sector. “This year’s seminar will have a significant impact, offering experts the chance to exchange ideas and form partnerships, which could lead to innovative projects in Mozambique.”

The MGES event, organized by dmg events in partnership with ENH (Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos), is Mozambique’s largest platform for discussions on energy policies, project developments, and business opportunities.

The summit will attract over 3,500 attendees, including international energy leaders, government representatives, and key stakeholders from across the global gas, LNG, and renewable energy value chain. The event will also feature an exhibition space with 275 international exhibitors and presentations from 150 expert speakers.

As Mozambique positions itself as a leader in Africa’s energy transition, the summit will play a critical role in showcasing the country’s vast potential in renewable energy, including solar, wind, and hydro.

Additionally, it will promote local content development by supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and providing a platform for entrepreneurs to engage with international investors.
