Kansanshi Mine2Mine 2024 Cycling Race Kicks Off from Solwezi to Kalumbila

The 2024 Kansanshi Mine2Mine cycling race officially commenced this morning, starting at the Petroda Filling Station just outside Solwezi. Cyclists from Zambia and neighboring countries gathered to embark on the grueling yet scenic 140-kilometer race from Solwezi to Kalumbila.

The event, sponsored by First Quantum Minerals and other key partners, saw riders tackle a challenging route. The initial stretch from Solwezi to the Mutanda River offered a smooth ride, with participants alert to occasional potholes.

After passing through the toll gate, cyclists faced steeper climbs, particularly the demanding ascent from the Lumwana Police Checkpoint to Manyama.

Race organizers stationed King of the Mountain (KOM) officials at key points to track the progress of climbers, and safety measures were heightened throughout the race.

Despite the obstacles, including steep inclines, narrow bridges, and pedestrian traffic, cyclists remained focused as they pushed toward Kalumbila.

The Kansanshi Mine2Mine race is a celebrated event on Zambia’s sports calendar, testing the endurance and skill of participants while drawing enthusiastic spectators along the route.
