Zambia Urges Private Sector to Invest in Technology During UN General Assembly
Hon. Felix Mutati, Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, has called for private sector investments in Zambia’s technology sector, citing the high potential for returns.
Speaking at a private sector engagement on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mutati highlighted the country’s focus on digital inclusion, artificial intelligence (AI), and ICT infrastructure.
The minister also emphasized Zambia’s energy deficits and urged investments in power generation and transmission, essential for supporting the nation’s technological ambitions.
He invited the private sector to attend the upcoming Digital Government Summit in Lusaka, set for October 2-4, 2024, which will explore opportunities in Zambia’s digital transformation.
At the same meeting, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Director General, Albert Halwampa, promoted Zambia’s strategic location, stable political environment, and investment prospects in sectors such as e-mobility, energy, and agriculture.
He noted Zambia’s stable exchange rate and its commitment to international agreements, reinforcing the country’s status as a secure and attractive investment destination.
Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Chola Milambo, and Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) Director General, Choolwe Nalubamba, were among the senior government officials present at the meeting.
