Zambia and Finland Strengthen Ties, Explore New Collaboration Opportunities
Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, MP, Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Mr. Ville Tavio, Finland’s Minister of Trade and Development, at the United Nations Headquarters.
The two ministers discussed international peace and security, along with potential collaborations in mining, education, and the circular economy.
A Finnish business delegation from the City of Tampere is set to visit Lusaka in November 2024 to promote business-to-business partnerships between the two cities.
Minister Tavio reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in mining, science, technology, and trade.
He also emphasized Finland’s goal of increasing trade with Africa, which currently stands at only two percent. Finland has prioritized Zambia in its School Feeding Programme, allocating €5 million through the World Food Programme.
Additionally, Zambia and Finland will co-host the Least Developed Country Future Forum in April 2025, with support from the United Nations.
The ministers also discussed the Accelerated Growth for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (AGS) program, designed to foster business growth in Zambia.
Both ministers are attending the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which takes place from September 24–30, 2024.
This is in a statement issued by Namatama Njekwa, First Secretary for Press and Public Relations, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations.
