Zambia Achieves Top Marks in ICAO Audit, Minister Tayali Celebrates Milestone Achievement

Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Museba Frank Tayali, MP, has announced with pride that Zambia has achieved an impressive score in the recent International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit.

The announcement came just before his departure for China to join President Hakainde Hichilema at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.

The ICAO audit, which commenced on August 21, 2024, and concluded on September 2, 2024, revealed that Zambia’s aviation sector scored 73.48 percent in effective implementation.

This score surpasses both the East and Southern Africa regional average of 60.71 percent and the global average of 69.4 percent.

A visibly elated Hon. Tayali expressed his delight at this achievement, highlighting that it occurred under his tenure as Minister.

He emphasized the New Dawn Administration’s commitment to revitalizing the aviation sector as a crucial component of national and regional development.

“This achievement underscores the progressive reforms and diligent preparation by Zambia’s aviation sector, led by the Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority,” Tayali stated.

The high passing rate indicates that Zambia has no Significant Safety Concerns (SSC), reflecting strong compliance levels and boosting stakeholders’ confidence in the country’s aviation industry.

Minister Tayali praised the Civil Aviation Authority, the Aircraft Accidents Investigations Board, and the entire aviation sector for their hard work and dedication.

This marks Zambia’s second full ICAO audit, the first being in 2009 when the country scored 35.35 percent, leading to a ban on Zambian-registered aircraft flying into Europe.

The significant improvement in this latest audit highlights Zambia’s commitment to enhancing its aviation sector and its aspiration to become a key transport and logistics hub in the region.
