Zambia and China Sign 3 Bilateral Agreements to Boost Economic Diplomacy

Zambia and China have signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening their 60-year bilateral relations.

The agreements include a 20 million Yuan ($2.7 million) emergency humanitarian aid package, infrastructure expansion projects, and capacity-building initiatives.

Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hope Situmbeko, emphasized the importance of these agreements in advancing Zambia’s economic diplomacy under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.

During the signing ceremony in Lusaka, Chinese Embassy Charge d’Affaires Wang Sheng announced China’s commitment to constructing new infrastructure for Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, three milling plants, and providing 1,870 metric tons of white rice as part of the humanitarian aid.

Additionally, China will donate K1.47 million towards Zambia’s 60th Independence Commemorations. President Hichilema is expected to further solidify these relations during a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping at the upcoming Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.
