President Hichilema to Strengthen Zambia-China Relations at Ninth FOCAC Summit

President Hakainde Hichilema will embark on a working visit to the People’s Republic of China from August 30th to September 7th, 2024, to participate in the Ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit. 

The summit, scheduled for September 4th to 6th in Beijing, will convene under the theme “Joining Forces to Promote Modernisation and Build a High-level China-Africa Community of a Shared Future.”

During his visit, President Hichilema will hold a crucial bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between Zambia and China. 

Alongside Tanzania’s President Samia Suhulu Hassan, the leaders will witness the signing of the Investment Framework on revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA).

On the same day, President Hichilema will also preside over the Zambia Power Development Forum at Power China Headquarters. 

Additionally, strategic meetings with key Chinese government officials and investors are planned, focusing on unlocking new opportunities in sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and mining.

This visit underscores the importance of Zambia-China relations and President Hichilema’s commitment to fostering partnerships that drive socio-economic development. 

The President’s engagements are anticipated to yield tangible benefits for Zambia, reinforcing the nation’s path toward equitable growth and development.

President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia immediately after completing his engagements.
