Kagem Mining First to Receive Prestigious Safety Trophy from Ministry of Mines

Kagem Mining Limited has become the inaugural recipient of the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary’s Award for Safety, recognizing its exceptional safety record.

The award was presented to Kagem by Dr. Hapenga M. Kabeta, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, during the 2024 Inter-Company First Aid Competition held in Luanshya, Copperbelt.

Dr. Kabeta commended Kagem for its commitment to workplace safety, employee well-being, and responsible mining practices, describing the accomplishment as a landmark in the industry.

The trophy, which will be awarded annually, signifies Kagem’s dedication to maintaining a zero-injury record and leading the way in safe mining practices across Zambia.

Benedict Bukoka, Kagem’s Head of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ), attributed the achievement to the collective effort of the team.

“This award reflects our team’s relentless commitment to safety and reinforces our resolve to uphold the highest safety standards,” Bukoka said.

He also expressed gratitude to the Zambian government, praising the Ministry’s support and rigorous safety regulations as key factors in the mining sector’s progress towards safer operations.

The award follows another recognition from the Government of Zambia’s Mines Safety Department, which recently honored Kagem for achieving 7,580,144 Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free hours.
