Zambia Chaired SADC Organ Troika Summit Virtually, Pledges Support to Tanzania
On 16th August, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema chaired the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation Troika Summit virtually due to pressing national matters. The summit is currently underway in Harare, Zimbabwe.
In his remarks, President Hichilema expressed regret at not being able to attend in person but conveyed heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Zimbabwean government, and the people of Zimbabwe for their warm reception and hospitality extended to the Heads of State and the Zambian delegation.
President Hichilema acknowledged the invaluable support provided to Zambia during its tenure as Chairperson of the Organ.
He emphasized the Organ’s crucial role in promoting peace, security, and political stability within the SADC region, which is essential for socio-economic development.
The President pledged Zambia’s continued support to the incoming Chairperson, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania.
He committed to maintaining active involvement as the outgoing Chair for the remainder of this year and the next.
In his report, President Hichilema noted that, despite some challenges in a few member states, the political and security situation in the region has generally remained stable.
