Zambian Breweries Applauds Red Arrows’ Victory in Historic 2024 Carling Black Label Charity Shield
Zambian Breweries has praised Red Arrows FC for their triumphant win in the 2024 Carling Black Label Charity Shield, celebrating not only the team’s success but also the historic inclusion of women’s teams in the event.
The match, held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, was a thrilling showcase of Zambian football talent and brought together fans from across the nation.
Red Arrows FC, the reigning Zambia Premier League champions, faced off against Kabwe Warriors, the runners-up in the ABSA Cup, in a match that ended in a decisive 4-1 victory for Red Arrows. All goals were scored in the second half, with Ricky Banda kicking off the scoring at the 51st minute, earning him the Man of the Match title and a K26,000 prize.
His efforts were followed by goals from Pen (64′), Angel Lubamba (74′), and Michie Malonga (81′). Kabwe Warriors’ lone goal came from Mwamba Mutombo in the 85th minute.
This year’s Charity Shield marked a significant milestone by featuring women’s teams for the first time, spotlighting the growing prominence of women’s football in Zambia. Green Buffaloes WFC delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Choma Warriors with a resounding 10-0 victory.
Vanessa Chikupila led the charge with goals in the 3rd, 19th, and 71st minutes, earning her the Player of the Match award and a K26,000 prize. The Buffaloes’ dominance was further solidified with goals from Maweta Chilenga, Maylan Mulenga, Thanda Mokgabo, Memory Nthala, and Natasha Nanyangwe.
Football fans played an active role in the event, with over 10,000 votes cast to select the starting 11 players for their favorite teams, demonstrating the deep engagement and passion of the Zambian football community.
Lusungu Ng’uni, Brand Manager for Carling Black Label at Zambian Breweries, expressed gratitude to the football community and fans for their continued support. “We pay tribute to all those who have worked tirelessly to keep the game of football alive in Zambia,” Ng’uni said, acknowledging the contributions of grassroots coaches, players, officials, and fans.
She emphasized the importance of their passion and dedication in maintaining Zambia’s reputation as a strong and vibrant football nation.
Zambian Breweries has been a steadfast supporter of Zambian football, with a commitment to fostering social cohesion, inspiring youth, and driving positive development through sports.
For the 2024 Charity Shield, Zambian Breweries contributed K281,000 in sponsorship, K200,000 in prize money, and sports kits valued at K125,000. Additionally, the brewer announced a substantial investment of K3.37 million in the Zambia Premier League for the 2024–25 season.
