SADC to Host Virtual Meeting of Ministers of Finance and Investment and Peer Review Panel
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will convene the Committee of Ministers of Finance and Investment and the Peer Review Panel virtually on August 6 and 7, 2024.
The meeting aims to update and assess initiatives promoting financial market development and integration, and to evaluate progress towards achieving Macroeconomic Convergence targets within the SADC regional economic integration strategy.
Discussions will focus on enhancing the integrity of financial systems in SADC member states and devising strategies for sustainable financing of regional infrastructure projects through development finance interventions.
Additionally, progress in industrial development, market integration, and infrastructure development, as outlined in the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030 and the SADC Vision 2050, will be reviewed.
The Committee of Ministers of Finance and Investment will be chaired by Honourable Victor Guilherme, Minister of Economy and Planning of the Republic of Angola. He will co-chair the Peer Review Panel alongside Mr. Lesetja Kganyago, Governor of the South African Reserve Bank and Chairperson of the SADC Committee of Central Bank Governors.
Ms. Angèle Makombo N’Tumba, SADC Deputy Executive Secretary responsible for Regional Integration, will represent His Excellency Mr. Elias M. Magosi, the Executive Secretary of SADC.
A key agenda item is the Discussion Paper outlining concrete options and recommendations for the successful operationalization of the SADC Regional Development Fund (RDF). The RDF aims to establish a regional financing mechanism for economic development and sustainable growth through infrastructure and industrial development, economic integration, and social development.
The meeting will also review the progress report of the SADC Project Preparation Development Facility (SADC PPDF), which focuses on preparing regional projects in the energy, transport, and water sectors to promote sustainable economic growth and the delivery of essential services in the SADC region.
During the Peer Review Panel, Ministers and Central Bank Governors will review the region’s economic performance and assess peer review reports according to the approved schedule of member states.
This meeting follows the Meeting of SADC Senior Treasury Officials from Ministries of Finance held on July 29, 2024, and the joint SADC Senior Treasury Officials and Central Bank Officials meeting on July 30, 2024.
