Ministry of Community Development Distributes Agricultural Equipment and Livestock to Southern Province Districts
The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has handed over agricultural equipment and livestock worth over K2.7 million to beneficiaries of the Food Security Pack (FSP) program in Kalomo and Zimba districts of Southern Province.
This initiative aims to uplift the living standards of local communities by enhancing household food security and generating income.
In Kalomo district, the handover included 7 hammer mills, 3 dehullers, 1 maize sheller, 1 oil expeller, 640 goats, 21 cows, and 119 bicycles, totaling K1,650,000. Zimba district beneficiaries received 2 dehullers, 2 oil expellers, 300 goats, and building materials for constructing three storage facilities, amounting to K1,131,000.
Speaking at the handover ceremonies, Ministry Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami, through a speech read by Director for Community Development Mrs. Patricia Muyamwa, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving living conditions through social protection programs.
Ms. Kawandami highlighted the importance of these initiatives in combating poverty, especially during periods of drought.
She urged beneficiaries to maximize the use of the provided equipment and livestock to boost production, enhance food security, and generate income.
Ms. Kawandami also encouraged beneficiaries to honor their repayment commitments, which are crucial for the sustainability of the program and the continuous support of future initiatives aimed at transforming livelihoods.
