Zambian Breweries has announced a substantial sponsorship of the upcoming Carling Black Label Charity Shield Game, scheduled for August 10, 2024, at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. The brewery has committed K281,000 towards the event, along with an additional K200,000 in prize money and K125,000 worth of sports kits.

This initiative underscores Zambian Breweries’ ongoing support for Zambian football.

In a significant move, Zambian Breweries also revealed its sponsorship of the Zambia Premier League for the 2024–25 season, with a notable investment totaling K3.37 million. The announcement was officiated by Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu, who praised the brewery for its continuous contribution to sports development in Zambia.

“Government is very much interested in corporate partners who are complementing our efforts in promoting sport, as it is a way of alleviating poverty levels and creating jobs for our people,” stated Minister Nkandu. “This government is always happy to find partners like Zambian Breweries.”

The Charity Shield Game will feature the winners of the Zambia Premier League, Red Arrows, and the runners-up in the ABSA Cup, Kabwe Warriors, competing for the coveted Charity Shield Cup.

Adding a new dimension to the event, this year will mark the inclusion of women’s teams, with the winners of the Women’s Super League, Green Buffaloes, facing off against the winners of the Women’s National Division One, Choma Warriors.

Thelma Kaonga, Zambian Breweries’ Country Head of Marketing, highlighted the brewery’s commitment to football development and gender equality in sports.

“We are proud to support the prestigious Carling Black Label Charity Shield Game under our Carling Black Label brand. By featuring women’s teams, we aim to promote gender equality and showcase the growth and potential of women’s football in Zambia,” said Kaonga.

Football fans can anticipate an exhilarating matchday experience, enjoying both the competitive spirit of the main events and the rising talent in women’s football. The sponsorship also includes an interactive component for fans, allowing them to influence the game by selecting the starting eleven players through promotional activities tied to Carling Black Label purchases.

“We want our consumers to feel connected to the game and their favorite teams,” added Ms. Kaonga. “We encourage everyone to participate and join us in Ndola for a day of exciting football and community spirit.”

The Carling Black Label Charity Shield Game promises to deliver a blend of entertainment, skillful plays, and community support, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of football in Zambia.
