Govt Launches Communication Strategy to Keep Zambia Clean, Green, and Healthy
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Garry Nkombo, has unveiled the ambitious “Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Communication Strategy (2024-2028).”
Emphasizing a collective responsibility, Minister Nkombo highlighted the crucial role of citizens, non-state actors, and government in maintaining a sustainable environment.
The strategy, supported by a robust legal framework, aims to instill behavioral changes essential for effective solid waste management.
Minister Nkombo urged communities to uphold best practices, emphasizing proper waste disposal in designated areas.
In a bid to amplify the strategy’s impact, Minister Nkombo called upon the media to support by airing government advertisements and programs related to the campaign.
He also urged local authorities to enforce regulations and ensure public compliance.
Speaking at the event, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Representative, Yuki Chika, underscored the strategy’s importance for public health in Zambia.
JICA is collaborating closely with local authorities to enhance green spaces, aligning with the strategy’s objectives.
Eddy Chikuta, Projects Manager at Bremen Overseas Research Development Association (BORDA) Zambia, praised the strategy’s structured framework for promoting positive behavior change.
He stressed the need for widespread dissemination and capacity building among stakeholders to ensure its sustained success.
