Chieftainess Waitwika Praises Peaceful Campaigns Ahead of By-Elections
Chieftainess Waitwika of the Namwanga people in Nakonde District has expressed gratitude to political parties participating in the Luchinde and Mulalo Local Government by-elections for conducting their campaigns peacefully.
Speaking at her palace in Waitwika Village during a courtesy visit from Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati, Chieftainess Waitwika noted that the campaigns in the two wards within her chiefdom have been peaceful.
She voiced her hope that the voting process, set for tomorrow, would be equally peaceful, emphasizing that violence has no place in Nakonde, where people live as one family.
Chieftainess Waitwika also thanked the government for initiating the construction of her palace, a project that is part of a nationwide effort to build palaces for traditional leaders, which has been well received.
In a show of unity, the ruling UPND and opposition Patriotic Front (PF) campaign teams were seen sharing smiles and handshakes at Kasongwa Village.
Felix Mutati, who leads the UPND campaign team, warmly greeted Nakonde Member of Parliament Luka Simumba, who leads the PF campaign team.
Mutati praised the peaceful atmosphere in Nakonde, highlighting that politics should be a competition of ideas rather than violence. He expressed the government’s desire for this conducive environment to persist.
Echoing these sentiments, MP Simumba acknowledged President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and noted that the PF’s recognition of his presidency has contributed to the peaceful campaign atmosphere.
