RCZ Advocates for National Unity, Calls for Presidential Engagement
The Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ) has been lauded for its leadership in promoting national unity, advocating for dialogue between President Hakainde Hichilema and former President Edgar Lungu.
This initiative, aimed at fostering reconciliation and healing in the country, has garnered widespread support from clergy and non-politically aligned religious leaders.
In a statement issued by Bishop Victor Kalesha of Citygate Christian Centre Zambia, the clergy commended RCZ’s proactive stance in urging President Hichilema to engage with his predecessor.
Emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation, Bishop Kalesha highlighted the deep-seated rivalry between the two leaders and the pivotal role spiritual guidance can play in easing tensions.
Drawing parallels with past leaders who prioritized national unity, such as former Presidents Levy Patrick Mwanawasa and Michael Chilufya Sata, Bishop Kalesha urged President Hichilema and former President Lungu to emulate their examples.
He stressed that putting aside differences for the greater good of the nation is paramount during these critical times.
Furthermore, the clergy urged Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu to utilize his influential platform to advocate for unity and reconciliation rather than contributing to division.
He emphasized that religious leaders have a responsibility to promote a message of hope and love, serving as beacons of peace in times of political discord.
The call for unity resonates deeply in Zambia, where citizens yearn for a cohesive and harmonious society.
Bishop Kalesha concluded with a rallying cry for all Zambians to unite in building a nation where love and forgiveness prevail over rivalry and conflict, envisioning a brighter future for generations to come.
