Manja Pamodzi Launches Plastic-Free July Campaign to Boost Recycling in Lusaka
The Manja Pamodzi Foundation Limited, a Zambian Breweries initiative, has launched Plastic-Free July with strong support from partners BAT, National Breweries, Vivo Energy, and Chilanga Cement.
This campaign aims to create a cleaner Lusaka through recycling and waste management.
Speaking at the launch of a new aggregator site in Kanyama, Lusaka District Commissioner Ms Rose Zulu praised Manja Pamodzi for its environmental efforts, urging others to join.
She highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Lusaka City Council’s vision and Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations.
Manja Pamodzi not only focuses on waste collection but also empowers communities, especially women, by creating over 1000 jobs. The new site in Kanyama will educate locals on waste management and promote a “waste into cash” mindset.
Chinika Ward Development Committee Chairperson Bridget Shakakaye emphasized the need for waste management awareness in Kanyama to prevent problems caused by improper waste disposal.
Zambian Breweries Corporate Affairs and Legal Director, Tawanda Hojane, stated that the company aims for all its products to be in returnable or recycled packaging and will train community site operators to support this goal.
Manja Pamodzi stands as a model for collaboration, showing that by working together, communities, businesses, and the government can achieve a plastic-free future for Lusaka and beyond.
