Zambia Transfers Kabulonga Trust School to Türkiye Maarif Foundation
Zambia and Türkiye have strengthened their educational ties with the handover of Kabulonga Trust School to the Türkiye Maarif Foundation.
This move, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 4, 2024, marks a significant step in educational cooperation between the two countries.
Previously known as Horizon Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School and operated by the Fethullah Gulen Movement (FETO), Kabulonga Trust School is now under the management of the Maarif Foundation.
The MoU was signed by Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Zambia, and Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün on behalf of Türkiye, with the ceremony witnessed by Zambia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Lt. Gen. Dr. William Maipambe Sikazwe, and senior officials from both nations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Ankara, Hon. Haimbe highlighted the importance Türkiye places on taking over former FETO schools.
He emphasized Zambia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in education.
The MoU aims to deepen ties and foster educational excellence in Zambia through innovative practices and resources.
President of the Türkiye Maarif Foundation, Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, expressed honor in formalizing the partnership.
He underscored the Foundation’s belief in education as a catalyst for societal transformation and noted its global presence, now extending to Zambia.
Dr. Akgün thanked the Zambian government for facilitating this collaboration, expressing confidence in its positive and lasting impacts.
The Maarif Foundation operates in 52 countries worldwide, educating over 200,000 students and is committed to enhancing educational opportunities in Zambia as its 53rd beneficiary nation.
