Vice President Nalumango Honors ECOSOCC’s 20th Anniversary with Flag-Raising Ceremony

Her Honour Mrs. W.K. Mutale Nalumango, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, led a distinguished Flag-Raising Ceremony to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union in Lusaka. 

Representing President Hakainde Hichilema, Vice President Nalumango commended ECOSOCC for its dedication to putting African citizens at the forefront of development and advancing the African Union’s people-centric vision.

In her speech, Vice President Nalumango highlighted Zambia’s pride in hosting ECOSOCC in Lusaka and its commitment to fostering an environment where Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) can thrive. She emphasized that the ceremony symbolizes unwavering dedication to unity, solidarity, and cooperation. 

Reflecting on the continent’s history, she acknowledged the contributions of forefathers who fought for independence and self-determination, urging a continued commitment to a more integrated and prosperous Africa.

Zambia, as a founding member of both the Organisation of African Unity and the African Union, has been instrumental in promoting the AU Agenda 2063’s vision of an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa. Vice President Nalumango emphasized Zambia’s ongoing efforts in promoting good governance, democracy, human rights, justice, and the rule of law.

Acknowledging the vital role of CSOs, she praised their engagement in the AU policy-making process and their efforts in governance and peace initiatives. She urged ECOSOCC to continue providing an effective platform for citizens and the diaspora in implementing Agenda 2063, in alignment with the African Union’s Constitutive Act.

Vice President Nalumango reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to regional and continental integration, economic growth, democratic governance, human rights, and the empowerment of youth and women.

The event was graced by prominent figures including Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, Permanent Secretary International Relations and Cooperation; Mr. Khalid Boudali, Presiding Officer of ECOSOCC; His Excellency Mr. Religious Siyave Haindongo, High Commissioner of Namibia and Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors; and other senior officials.
