ZEHEST Calls for Economic Indaba to Address Zambia’s Challenges
The Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) has called for an Economic Indaba to tackle the numerous challenges affecting the country.
With issues such as drought, hunger, an energy crisis, youth unemployment, a high cost of living, and national debt, ZEHEST believes that a collaborative approach is essential for finding sustainable solutions.
“We urge the government to be more consultative and engaging in solving national matters. No man is an island, and it does not mean that being in power equates to knowing everything,” said a ZEHEST in a statement. “Governance is diverse, and we, as Zambians, have solutions to our challenges. The problem is that we are not talking to one another.”
ZEHEST emphasises that Zambia has the potential to overcome its challenges, much like the noble eagle depicted on the national flag. They urge the government to be transparent and accountable in its dealings to boost citizens’ confidence.
Additionally, ZEHEST calls on politicians to offer checks and balances in a respectful manner.
The organisation has expressed concern over the prevalence of hate speech, insults, tribal talk, and character assassination, especially on social media.
“It’s sad that there is too much politicking happening at the expense of meaningful developmental matters. We urge our fellow citizens to maintain the peace we have enjoyed since independence, as peace is a rare commodity that we must guard jealously. We only have one Zambia, one nation,” the statement added.
ZEHEST strongly advises the government to support entrepreneurship, which they believe is key to national economic growth.
The organisation is committed to fostering dialogue and collaboration to create a brighter future for Zambia.
