Zambia’s Commitment to Global Peace Highlighted at UN Chiefs of Police Summit

Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba has reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to supporting and implementing measures to prevent conflict worldwide, in line with the United Nations mandate.

Speaking at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) held at UN Headquarters, Mr Musamba emphasised the critical link between peace and sustainable development.

“There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development,” Mr Musamba stated.

He underscored the necessity of supporting the police in all aspects to create a favourable environment for establishing frameworks and pillars of rule of law, ensuring the safety of people and property.

Mr Musamba stressed that conflict prevention is more crucial than ever, citing a resurgence in violent conflicts and an increase in the number of armed conflicts globally.

The summit, held under the theme “The role of UN Police in preventing conflict and violence and sustaining peace,” serves as the largest global platform for senior police leaders.

Participants gather to discuss strengthening global security and addressing cross-border threats through the unifying power of national UN policing.

This statement was issued by Namatama Njekwa, First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations.
