FAZ Mourns the Passing of Former Chipolopolo Striker Justin Shonga
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is deeply saddened by the death of former Chipolopolo striker Justin Shonga. Shonga passed away on Sunday evening at Sikanze Hospital after a short illness.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga expressed his profound sorrow over the loss, highlighting the devastating nature of Shonga’s passing given his young age.
“On behalf of my executive committee and the entire football family, I wish to convey my heartfelt sympathies to the Shonga family over the death of Justin. Everyone in Zambian football knows what Shonga did for the game and we will celebrate his contribution as we mourn him,” Kamanga stated.
Kamanga praised Shonga’s significant contributions to the Chipolopolo from 2018 to 2021, during which he scored many crucial goals.
“He was a great ambassador of our game for the many clubs he played for outside the country,” Kamanga added.
Shonga, who was 27 years old, had recently signed with Saudi second-tier side Najran SC in January 2024. Kamanga noted that younger players could learn from Shonga’s dedication and commitment to perfecting his craft.
“The life of Shonga is a true testimony that it does not matter how long or short you live to leave an impression in life. Go well Justin, and we will always celebrate and remember you,” Kamanga said.
Shonga was an essential member of the Chipolopolo team under the leadership of coaches Wedson Nyirenda, Sven Vandenbroeck, Aggrey Chiyangi, and Milutin Sredojevic (Micho).
