Zambia’s President Hichilema Commends Mozambique’s President Nyusi for Peacekeeping Efforts in Cabo Delgado

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has praised Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi for allowing SADC troops to undertake a mission in Cabo Delgado aimed at ensuring peace, security, and stability in the region. 

Speaking during bilateral talks at Statehouse, President Hichilema highlighted the critical role of maintaining peace in Mozambique, stressing its broader impact on SADC’s stability. 

As Chair of the SADC Troika on Politics, Defence, and Security, Zambia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional peace initiatives.

President Hichilema and President Nyusi discussed social and economic collaborations aimed at fostering development between their nations. They noted progress on initiatives like the Chanida One Stop border aimed at enhancing trade by operating 24 hours a day. 

Both leaders emphasized the importance of economic relations, with President Nyusi expressing optimism that discussions would lead to mutual benefits.

President Hichilema extended best wishes to Mozambique ahead of its October 2024 general elections, calling for a democratic process and emphasizing the need for peaceful conditions throughout the electoral period. 

President Nyusi acknowledged Zambia’s historical support and highlighted the ongoing need for enhanced economic diplomacy between the two countries.
