Proflight Zambia Reinstates Flights to Kalumbila, Boosting Regional Connectivity
Proflight Zambia has announced the resumption of scheduled flights to Kalumbila in North-Western Province, starting 1 July 2024. This strategic move aims to boost travel and economic growth in the region.
“Proflight is excited to bring back flights to Kalumbila. Our commitment to providing best-in-class air services while connecting local cities and inspiring journeys remains steadfast,” said Captain Josias Walubita, Director of Flight Operations.
Kalumbila District, known for its mining activities, will benefit from increased accessibility and economic development through this route. The direct flight from Lusaka (LUN) to Kalumbila (UMB) will take approximately one hour, with flights via Solwezi (SLI) taking about two hours.
The service will operate with a 50-seater CRJ aircraft, featuring dedicated check-in staff and security personnel. Flights from Lusaka to Kalumbila (via Solwezi) will run from Monday to Saturday, departing at 06:40hrs and arriving at 08:20hrs, with additional afternoon flights from Sunday to Friday.
Return flights from Kalumbila to Lusaka will also be available from Monday to Saturday, departing at 08:45hrs and arriving at 09:45hrs, with afternoon options from Sunday to Friday.
This new service will significantly reduce travel time for both leisure and business travellers, eliminating a gruelling 14-hour road journey covering approximately 668 km. The schedule also allows for convenient same-day returns from Monday through Friday.
Anthony Mukutuma, Director for Zambia at First Quantum Minerals (FQM), highlighted the importance of this route in developing the Kalumbila Multi-Facility Economic Zone.
Captain Walubita expressed gratitude to FQM for their support and to the Zambia Airports Corporation (ZACL) for providing an X-ray machine to ensure the highest security standards.
