Minister Haimbe Advocates Modernization of Zambia’s Diplomatic Training Institute
Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, recently conducted a familiarization tour of the Zambia Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies (ZIDIS) in Lusaka.
Accompanied by senior Ministry officials, Minister Haimbe was warmly welcomed by Ms. Loveness Mulimbika, the Institute Director.
During the visit, Minister Haimbe engaged with ZIDIS management and staff, emphasizing the institute’s pivotal role in training diplomats within Zambia.
He praised the dedication of ZIDIS personnel in fulfilling their mandate despite operational challenges, highlighting the urgent need to upgrade facilities to modern standards.
Minister Haimbe envisioned a revitalized ZIDIS attracting a broader clientele both locally and internationally.
Furthermore, Minister Haimbe encouraged collaborative efforts between ZIDIS management and the Ministry to explore innovative approaches, including Public Private Partnerships, to enhance the institution’s infrastructure and educational offerings.
He assured ongoing government support under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership for initiatives aimed at advancing Zambia’s diplomatic capabilities.
In response, Ms. Mulimbika expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit, underscoring ZIDIS’s evolution since its establishment by an Act of Parliament in 1995.
She highlighted the institute’s expanded programs and staff, noting its current role in training not only Zambians but also participants from across the Southern African region.
However, Ms. Mulimbika stressed the critical need for infrastructure modernization and adequate facilities to enable ZIDIS to effectively fulfill its educational mission.
