President Lungu Extends Congratulations to President Ramaphosa on Second Inauguration
His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the Sixth President of Zambia has extended warm congratulations to His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa on his recent inauguration as President of South Africa for a second term.
The ceremony, attended by numerous foreign dignitaries including heads of state from across Africa and beyond, marked the formation of a government of national unity.
President Lungu praised President Ramaphosa and his alliance partners for exemplifying the resilience of democracy in Africa, stating, “The people of South Africa are a true testimony that democracy can flourish even amidst political diversity and free association.”
He urged other African nations to emulate and embrace this spirit of inclusivity and democracy.
The Zambian President also commended former President Jacob Zuma for his leadership and the establishment of the Mkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party, which secured 14.5% of the parliamentary seats, becoming the official opposition.
“This achievement is a hallmark of political resilience and must be celebrated by all members of MK,” President Lungu remarked.
Furthermore, President Lungu acknowledged Mr. Julius Malema and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for their significant role in South African politics, securing 9.5% of parliamentary seats. “EFF remains a critical and important voice in shaping the future of South Africa,” he affirmed.
Closing his statement on a note of regional unity, President Lungu extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Ramaphosa once more and to the people of South Africa, emphasizing the significance of the occasion under the banner of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
