FAZ Celebrates Zambia’s U17 Women’s World Cup Qualification
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is jubilant following the qualification of the Under-17 Women’s National Team for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Zambia secured their spot after a resilient performance against Morocco, culminating in a 0-0 draw in Berkane, resulting in a 3-1 aggregate victory.
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga expressed his delight and congratulated the team for their historic achievement.
“On behalf of myself and the executive committee, I wish to salute the under-17 girls for their qualification to the Dominican Republic FIFA World Cup. It is yet again an example of the heights our women’s game has soared to,” Kamanga stated.
Kamanga attributed the success to FAZ’s strategic investment in grassroots football since 2016, emphasizing the development of both men’s and women’s teams.
He highlighted that this qualification adds to the recent successes of Zambia’s senior women’s team, which qualified for the Olympics in 2020 and 2024 and achieved a historic FIFA World Cup qualification in 2023.
“While our senior women’s national team is thriving, we are even happier that the junior teams are following suit which gives us greater hope for the future. Our 10-year strategic plan is no doubt clear about the growth of youth teams for both men and women,” Kamanga affirmed.
Looking forward to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in October-November 2024, Kamanga assured that FAZ would ensure quality preparations for the team despite it being early days.
He extended his gratitude to the technical bench, staff, FAZ secretariat, and fans for their unwavering support towards the achievement of various football teams.
The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic will feature sixteen teams, with Zambia proudly representing Africa alongside two other teams from the continent.
This marks Zambia’s return to the U17 World Cup since their last appearance in Costa Rica in 2014.
