FIFA President Gianni Infantino Praises Zambia’s Football Progress in First Visit
Upon his arrival in Zambia, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was warmly received by the Zambian Football Association.
During a press conference, Infantino praised the impressive progress of the Copper Princesses, highlighting their excellent performance in football.
This visit marked Infantino’s first to the country, accompanied by his delegation and FIFA General Secretary.
In his address, Infantino commended the Zambian fans and the nation for their passionate support of football.
He emphasized FIFA’s commitment to improving women’s football, responding to a question from Malama, a journalist from Diamond Media.
Infantino acknowledged the existing disparity between men’s and women’s football and announced that half of the new facilities to be built would be dedicated to women’s football.
He also highlighted the positive impact of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in advancing the women’s division.
When questioned about the previously cancelled FAZ AGM meeting, Infantino acknowledged the issue, noting that such challenges occur in other countries as well.
He emphasized the importance of handling these issues properly, respecting FIFA’s statutes and principles.
Infantino stated, “Football does face legal issues and challenges as well, and we have to make sure things are done the right way. We have to deal with the authorities, and it is also important to respect the statutes and principles of FIFA. At the end of the day, what is important for me as FIFA President is to have meetings and organise football, not organise meetings.”
Infantino’s visit underscores FIFA’s dedication to fostering the growth of football in Zambia, particularly women’s football, and addressing governance issues within football associations.
Meanwhile, questions have arisen regarding the position of Andrew Kamanga and his board within the Zambian Football Association. The situation remains uncertain, with stakeholders keenly watching the developments.
