SADC Backs Mubita Nawa for INTERPOL Secretary General Role

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has thrown its weight behind Mr. Mubita Nawa for the position of Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).

Mr. Nawa’s candidacy received the official endorsement of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17, 2023, following a recommendation from the SADC Council of Ministers.

Currently serving as the Director of Administration in the Zambia Police Service, Mr. Nawa is one of four contenders vying for the Secretary General position at INTERPOL, a role appointed for a five-year term.

Professor Kula Ishmael Theletsane, the SADC Secretariat Director of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Affairs, praised Mr. Nawa’s extensive experience in combating transnational organized crime, commitment to justice, and strategic leadership capabilities, deeming him an exemplary candidate.

In light of evolving security challenges in the SADC region, Professor Theletsane expressed confidence in Mr. Nawa’s ability to enhance INTERPOL’s effectiveness and foster stronger partnerships among member countries.
