Green Buffaloes Women Win Fourth Straight FAZ Super League Title

Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club reigns supreme once again, securing their record-breaking fourth consecutive FAZ Women’s Super League title. They achieved this feat with a dominant 2-0 victory over ZISD Women in the final match of the 2023/24 season.

Two goals separated the champions from their challengers. Maweta Chilenga found the net within the first minute, setting the tone for the match. Penelope Lubelenga’s own goal in the second half further cemented Green Buffaloes’ lead and their championship position.

The Zambia Army-backed team has asserted their dominance since the league’s inception four years ago. This season, Coach Carol Kanyemba’s squad remained undefeated throughout the entire 34-match campaign. Their impressive record boasts 28 wins, 6 draws, a staggering 102 goals scored, and only 11 conceded.

ZESCO Ndola Girls secured a commendable second-place finish with 87 points, trailing Green Buffaloes by just three points. They too displayed strength, recording 27 wins and 6 draws, with 103 goals scored and 19 conceded. Their only stumble was a loss to Green Buffaloes.

Rounding out the top four are INDENI and Green Eagles FC. Green Buffaloes, as champions, will represent Zambia at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League, a crucial stepping stone towards the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, National Assembly, Queens Sports Academy, Chipata Girls, and Kabwe Celtic Queens will face relegation to the National Division One after finishing the season at the bottom of the table.
