Zambia Calls for Global Financial Overhaul at Nordic-Africa Meeting
Zambia’s Acting Foreign Minister, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, called for a radical transformation of the global financial system during the 2024 Nordic-African Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting in Copenhagen.
Haimbe argued that the current architecture suffers from “deep-rooted” inequalities that disadvantage developing nations.
He called for a new framework that promotes inclusive decision-making and effective solutions to global challenges.
Despite their geographic separation, Haimbe highlighted the shared aspirations and challenges faced by Africa and the Nordic region.
He emphasized the need for collective action and cooperation among countries and international actors.
The Zambian Minister also reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to co-facilitate the Global Digital Compact (GDC) alongside Sweden.
The GDC aims for responsible use of digital technologies, bridging the digital divide, and creating a safe digital space.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Haimbe held a bilateral discussion with his Norwegian counterpart regarding food security, energy transition, and climate adaptation.
Norway, through its investment fund Norfund, remains a key development partner for Zambia in these crucial areas.
