President Hichilema to Attend Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit in Kenya
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia will undertake an Official Visit to Kenya at the invitation of President Dr. William Samoei Ruto. The visit is slated for the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit on 9th May 2024.
President Hichilema’s participation underscores Zambia’s commitment to addressing agricultural productivity and soil health issues across Africa.
The summit aims to assess soil health, discuss innovative policies, financing mechanisms, and investments to boost agricultural productivity, particularly in pro-poor sectors.
Preceding the main summit, Expert and Joint Ministerial Sessions on 7th and 8th May 2024, respectively, will allow experts and policymakers to delve into key topics and prepare recommendations.
Endorsed by the 40th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Executive Council, the summit aligns with Zambia’s Economic Transformation Agenda.
President Hichilema’s engagement at the summit is crucial for fostering joint ventures and partnerships in Zambia’s agriculture sector, a primary livelihood source for its citizens.
Additionally, Zambia aims to attract investments in climate-smart agriculture to enhance food security and mitigate climate change impacts.
During the visit, President Hichilema will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders and heads of international organizations to discuss pressing regional and global issues.
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P., expects the President to return to Zambia immediately after his engagements.
