Police Arrest Alleged Gang Leader in Matero
Lusaka Police have arrested a suspected gang leader, Gift Banda, also known as “Black Fish,” in connection with an assault that occurred in Matero township.
According to Danny Mwale, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, this incident unfolded on May 5th, 2024, around 11:00 am near Shadrecks Bridge in Matero.
Police officers on patrol duty noticed a crowd gathered and discovered a man being assaulted.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Gift Banda, a resident of Matero whose exact address is unknown, fled the scene upon seeing the police.
However, officers gave chase and successfully apprehended him.
The victim of the assault, a 33-year-old man from Matero, sustained a swollen forehead, cuts on his lips, and a nosebleed.
He was rushed to the hospital for treatment and remains admitted there.
Banda is currently in police custody awaiting formal charges. Officers also found an undisclosed amount of marijuana in his possession.
The motive behind the assault remains under investigation by the Lusaka Police.
